"It is better to give than to receive."
How do you teach a three and five you old this concept? I don't know exactly. All I know is that in order for them to learn that giving is better then receiving, you have to start by giving. We wanted Callie and Kessler to enjoy going to the store to pick out some of their favorite toys in order to turn around and give them away. They were both game at the store when they were doing the shopping but when it came to packaging it up and shipping it off, Kessler was not quite there. He wanted to play with the toys and color with the new race car crayons and coloring book. He wanted to try on the new blue race car socks and eat the yummy candy canes. Each year at Christmas (and all year) I pray that my kid's mindset will shift from selfish to selfless and from getting to giving. We must start by being the example. I know that I am more blessed to give than to receive!! I love imagining the faces of the children that will receive an Operation Christmas Child box. Some of the kids getting gifts may have never been given anything in their entire life. Can you imagine the expressions on their faces and the joy in their hearts when they open their present….. That is what blesses me!!!
